Savory Curry Oatmeal


This recipe for Curried Oatmeal with Carmelized Onions comes from Saveur, my all-time favorite cooking magazine, and it looks absolutely incredible. In the words of the recipe’s author, “I realize it might sound strange to those who are used to brown sugar and butter, raisins or fruit, but curried oatmeal with caramelized onions is a bit of breakfast bliss. It’s deeply flavorful, not too spicy (if you’re worried about that). with moments of rich, savory-umami goodness. I’m having a hard time writing about it without wanting to jump up and dash to the kitchen to make some more—it’s that good.”

    curry oatmeal tastes better if you add a slice of cheddar or american cheese.

    a splash of soysauce and cayenne pepper in addition to cheese also does wonders for curry oatmeal. that’s what i enjoy for breakfast with a cup of coffee.
